Last night it was about the car…

… but now it is about the experience.

I wrote a little last night about the car I am currently sort of wanting.  And what I didn’t say was that I wandered into a local dealer to get a closer look.  I have been looking at it for a few weeks… and it will take a few more before I really get behind it.

But, there are a couple of things that are worth mentioning that aren’t really about the car, but about the experience of looking at the car.

I came to the dealer with my son… he’s four… he’s energetic… he’s curious.  He wanted to sit in a few cars, and of course that means that each seat in each car needs to be tested, twice.  He wasn’t slamming doors.  He wasn’t fiddling too much.  And he wasn’t getting any guff.  So, that scores well.

When we first got there, we were left to wander around a little bit.  One sales guy came by and asked if we needed anything, and then moved a vehicle.  Not pushy, but available.  That also scores well.

When I decided that I DID want a little more, I sought out the sales guy.  No brochure on the car.  Not a great score there…

I asked to get into one of the cars on the lot.  The key was retrieved quickly and I didn’t have to give up a load of info.  I hopped in, looked around… felt it.  I elected NOT to drive it (didn’t want to move the car seat).  No pressure.  Again, good score.

I was asked the magic question… “What can we do to get you to buy this car today?”  I told them it wasn’t happening without the car being free… I value my marriage.  No pressure.  Again with a good score.

The dealer and the sales guy are doing pretty well…

Decided to look at the website again… (Pontiac, so it isn’t a surprise).  There is an error in FireFox on the build options.  And in Internet Explorer.  No score.

Just to compare, I went to Chevy’s website.  Same problem.  Two days of it.  No score.

Maybe tomorrow I will relate this to real estate sales…
