In international motorsports, there was an attack of the killer Bs… and it didn’t involve insects.  It did involve Rally cars that were exceptionally powerful and technologically advanced… and seriously quick and fast.  Production requirements were only 200 cars to make the cars legal.  The rules were VERY open.  The cars were light, most were 4wd and the technology wasn’t limited.  Boost wasn’t limited either, so power was staggering in some cases.

The first of the cars to really take the B spirit to heart was an evolution of the Audi Quattro which had successfully competed in World Rallying since 4wd had been legalized.  When Group B was announced, Audi modified the platform, lightened the car, increased the power and shortened the wheelbase.

The car was not only competitive in rallying, both in the US and the rest of the world, but also had success on Pike’s Peak in Colorado.

In the last video, Michelle Mouton was featured. She was a rarity, a woman at the top ranks of international racing. For a time, she is still one of the fastest people ever to go up Pike’s Peak in Colorado.
