101 Cars, Part 29
This is kind a rare bird, but cool nonetheless. Back before World War II, there weren’t ANY regular production 4 wheel drive vehicles. After WWII, there were really only two; Jeep and Dodge Power Wagon.
In fact, up until the 1960s, regular production 4x4s were almost non-existent. But there were companies that filled in the gap. General Motors had Napco conversions and Ford had Marmon-Herringtons. They took factory trucks (and some cars) and converted them to 4 wheel drives for customers.
I loved the old rigs. They were rough riding, loud, handled like Samoan bread vans, got lousy mileage and broke down a lot. What’s not to love? They also filled a niche that was under-served.
I don’t want to drive one because it’s fast. Nor because it can go places nothing else can go… I want to drive these because they are cool. And historically significant.

Lane’s New Video Channel
I have just struck a deal with The Video Connector to provide video content for my sites. Look for lots of cool videos from Tara and TJ from Reel Productions. They have been the providers of my video tours for a couple of years now, and really have a handle on the real estate market. Enjoy.
