The very first car I autocrossed was a little German econo-rocket that had taken America by storm. And, while there have been new and improved versions of its competitors… in the category it basically created… it is still the one against which the others are judged.
Some of its competitors are currently ahead of it in technology, but there is no denying the impact of Volkswagon’s Rabbit/Golf GTi.
