Almost Announcing a New Project…

The first car of Benz (1886), Mercedes Doppel-...

I have been writing this blog since July, 21st 2009.  And it actually dates back a little further than that… I started blogging on Active Rain (a real estate specific blogging platform) a couple of months prior.  And I love writing about real estate, but…

Some of my favorite things to write about have been cars.  In fact, several of my all time highest clicked posts are about cars.  And the time has come for a specific site about cars…

I’m not ready to announce fully yet, but I do want to tease it a little…

The new site will be:

  • Focused on cars, with a little tool and garage stuff tossed in for variety.
  • Highlighting events around the Atlanta area (unless I find myself at other cool car events).
  • Not about real estate (unless a garage is profiled every once in a while).
  • Looking for contributors, features and news items…

This site isn’t going away.  In fact, the new project will probably energize my existing sites.  In addition to this one, I have.

Look for a full announcement in a few days…

Flashback Friday… 101 Cars Wrap-up…

TVR Sagaris II

Ever so slightly over a year ago I wrote the wrap-up post for my 101 Cars I Must Drive series.  It took a year to write the series.  It really was a labor of love.  It was fun, but it was also a lot of work.  I was pretty proud of some of the more obscure cars I was able to showcase, even if only on my little stage.

So, last year’s wrap-up post had a list of the cars, as well as a link to each individual post.  Looking over the list, there were some pretty cool rides… of course, they were all cars I wanted to drive, so I guess they would have to have been kind of cool.

Here are a few of my favorites: the Lancia Stratos, the Bowler Nemesis, the TVR Sagaris, the ProDrive P2 and the Ascari.

Stop in and see how many of the cars from your list are there…

53 Cool Concept Cars… Part XX…

Is this the right road?

Tribute cars…  They are out there.  I ran across this tribute car (#43 Petty Charger) at Atlanta Motor Speedway, in the parking lot.  This isn’t a race car… it has a full interior, and was driven to the event.

A couple of years ago I was driving to Charlotte, NC and was passed by a Dale Earnhart #3 Lumina… with a fuel cell and a full rollcage.  That was another tribute car.

Way back in the day, I recall seeing a ‘dealer option’ tribute car to Bill Elliot’s Championship winning Thunderbird.

Richard Petty's 72 Charger... tributeThis isn’t just a NASCAR thing, as I have seen sportbikes and sports cars that looked just like their track bred brethren.

They are great marketing tools for the sponsors, manufacturers and the drivers/teams they represent.  In fact, if I were a team sponsor, I would absolutely have my entire fleet in race livery.  Trucks, vans, cars… everything.  They would all be the same colors and design.

A few years ago I ran across a study of NASCAR sponsorship effectiveness.  The study concluded that NASCAR fans were the most dedicated to the sponsors in their sport.  Even when they were cheering for the Target sponsored car, they would stop into Target and buy Tide detergent (who sponsored another car) and Little Debbie snack foods (again, another sponsor).

Now, personally, I like the obscure cars… like the Torino Talladega (Ford’s answer to the Plymouth Superbird).  And there is one advantage to the historic cars… they don’t change every year.

Cool Garages… Yahoo

Old garage.

Yahoo Real Estate had an article about cool garages a few days ago.  They focused on some very high end homes… with some really cool garages.  Nice pictures.

I tend to focus on garages that are a little more within the budget realms of [reality].  Not that I would mind representing $10m properties… but there aren’t that many opportunities, and it isn’t a circle I travel in a lot.  Luckily, I love the people I work with, buyers and sellers that share a love of cars, Jeeps, trucks and motorcycles… just like me.

Anyway, hit the link for some great garage shots… and if you are looking for an agent that actually WANTS to check to see what the garage is like when touring a home, give me a call…

Flashback Friday… 101 Cars

About a year ago, I was halfway through my 101 Cars… series.  It was a blast.  Twice a week I had settled into a schedule to write my opinions about some interesting cars, for a year.  In fact, when the series ended, I had a hard time writing for a couple of weeks.

Anyway, Dive in and take a look.  There are some pretty interesting rides in that series.
