It was a busy weekend for my family… and car shows were a major part of that. On Saturday, aside from a birthday party and baseball game for one of my boys, we visited two car shows. One of the shows was also a blood drive.
The first car show of the day was the Smoke Rise Baptist Church Car Show. This show is on the first Saturday in May each year. Last year’s show was delayed a week for rain, and then all but rained out again. Clouds loomed for the show this year as well, but there was a great turn out anyway.
Because of our schedule, we had to leave before registration was even wrapped up, but got pics of all of the cars that were there by 11:00am or so.
For a little more about the SRBC Car Show:
The second car show of the day was the GBR Mud4Blood show. The GBR is in their 7th year of hosting the annual show/blood drive. It is also usually a gathering of many of the 4wd clubs in the Atlanta area, getting together to support blood donation.
This years event collected over 100 pints of blood for LifeSouth, and that means more than 300 lives could be saved by the blood collected just that day! For the GBR, this is just one of their community focused activities. As a club, they are also the ‘Adopt-a-Trail’ representatives for the Beasley Knob OHV area outside of Blairsville, GA… and they have adopted a mile of highway to clean as well. In their Adopt-a-Trail work, aside from picking up the trash and refuse that collects around the trails, they also have undertaken maintenance and improvement projects on behalf of the US Forest Service. Their work led to a grant from BF Goodrich when the trail system was named one of the best in 2008. As if that weren’t enough, many GBR members certified emergency response volunteers for several metro Atlanta counties.
