Maybe it explains their 122 year history

I normally don’t like to pimp specific companies products too much… unless I am presenting competitive products as well, but I just wanted to commend Sears.

Craftsman Lift and Secure JackNo, I didn’t go to a store and get amazing customer service. No I didn’t order something off the internet from them. I didn’t even stumble across an amazing price… But, what I DID find was the Tool Catalog. I am very familiar with it, I try to make sure I grab one each year. And I do it not because I am necessarily going to buy a bunch of tools, but because they have a great selection that gives the cross section of what sort of groovy/cool stuff is out for the garage.

When I was a kid, the release of the JC Penney Christmas Wishbook was THE most important literary event each year. And while the Tool Catalog release doesn’t hit THAT level… it is a lot of fun. It makes me happy for a day or three.

So, let’s hit a few highlights…

Cross Force Wrenches by CraftsmanCraftsman Cross Force Wrenches. These things are pretty cool. How many times have you been pushing on a combo wrench and it just isn’t easy to provide a lot of force because you are pushing on the edge of the wrench? These are also ratcheting… and I LOVE my ratcheting combo wrenches. They are often my “go to” wrenches.

Craftsman Jack System, Lift and Secure. In order to safely work under a vehicle, we are always supposed to support it on jack stands, and not just the jack. This cuts a step and makes it more likely that even on those “just going to dive under and shake something for a minute” jobs that we will employ the safer method.

Orange Metallic Tool Cab

Don’t adjust your set… it isn’t red.  It is Orange Metallic.  It is joining blue, forest green, black and silver as options for their tool boxes.  Not everything is available in every color, but it IS nice that we don’t have to get stuck with the red box… even if it clashes with the maroon street rod.  So, a Craftsman Professional Tool 56″ Tool Cart in Sunburst Metallic Orange is on the cool list.

Montezuma Portable Tool BoxMontezuma Portable Tool Box.  This one is in black, but it’s also available in red and white.  It is kind of cool because of its shape, and the fact that just about everything is out there as soon as it is open.  There aren’t any drawers to jam, and we won’t forget where we put something…  It’s all right there.

So, that’s just a couple of the things that Sears found that we might like to find.

Child Labor doesn’t apply to family business, right?

How is my stuff going to fit?

As a real estate agent, one of the things I get to notice is what happens when people like a house.  Almost every time, there is a moment of realization… and then the need for a tape measure… and six more visits.

Tape Measure-at-244-by-G.E.SattlerI had a client that had one piece of furniture that they were literally ready to buy the house around.  It was a Dining Room cabinet that was 9′ tall and 13′ long… and 100 years old.  It was a seriously cool item.  For them, the tape measure came out first.

But, usually during the walk around of a strong candidate house, there is a bit pacing, and then arms out.  At home, they start measuring things… occasionally a notebook of measurements is created.  And on the second visit, we start measuring.

But there is another nifty new tool…

It is called SpaceDesigner.  You can play with it here.  Down at the bottom of the tour, there is a little icon that is a couple of chairs viewed from above, sitting on a rug… you really can’t tell until you put your mouse over it, but that is what it is.

It will open up a floor plan of the house.  And over on the left, there are a bunch of options for furniture and “stuff” that you can drag into the floor plan.  Resize it to exactly match your furniture, and try out different arrangements to see how things fit.

The lofty goal

We set out to build a site that is not only fun, but that engages potential buyers.  We want people to play with the features.  Tell your friends.  SpaceDesigner is another tool in the arsenal, like StyleDesigner (chronicled yesterday).  The virtual tour, with the panorama and other pictures, is a great way to really see the house.  If that weren’t enough, there is the video tour.  The goal is to help potential buyers see themselves in the house… and find out if it is a good fit.

Take a look at the site.  If you are interested, give me a shout.

But it isn’t perfect…

First, let me get this out of the way… nothing is perfect.9010 Brixham Ct.

But, let’s say that you just ran across a house.  It looks really great.  Love the brick… oh, there is a Home Theater… and the English Pub… wow. Dining room as it is...

The Dining Room is nice, and the layout is good.  But I wish it were a different color. Dining Room as it could be...

Maybe if it were green and gray with a tile floor…

Ok, maybe not, but you get the idea.

It is called Obeo StyleDesigner.  And what it does is let you play in my new listing.  We have three rooms set up so that you can alter the color of the walls and trim, as well as the surface and colors of the floor.

You don’t have to know how to use Photoshop… or anything else for that matter.  And it only takes a couple of minutes.  My color selections took a total of about 5 minutes.  Good selections might take longer.

Drop into the tour, or drop into the home’s website.

When you are ready to take a look at the house in person, let me know.

Keeping up with info…

A couple of things have happened recently that have had me thinking about this… so I’m going to spill some beans.

I read… I read a lot!  I had a current list of about 30 blogs that I follow.  Some only post occasionally, others post 10 or 15 posts each day.  Going to all of these sites to see what’s new would be impossibly inefficient.  So I don’t.

They come to me and let me know when I have new posts to read.

There are a variety of tools that let one do this.  I use FeedDemon, but Google Reader is very popular, and Outlook and Firefox both offer built in applications.

Oh, all this is about RSS (Really Simple Syndication) Feeds.  If you are using Firefox, you might notice a little orange thing on the address bar… there is also one on the tool bar to the right of “Newsletter Archives.”  Clicking on either of those will enable you getting the RSS feed from my website.

Each time you open your reader, you will see if I have a new post.

I have news sites, tech sites, other real estate blogs, some car stuff… things I like to read about, or feel I need to keep up with.

I don’t read everything.  I read the intros and decide if I want to read the post or story.  If not, I can move on.  I like the FeedDemon more than Google Reader because I can go past the posts that don’t interest me faster.  I haven’t used Outlook as a reader, nor Firefox.

If you want to try it out, go to the FeedDemon link above, get the application (free) and download and install it.  Then subscribe to this blog…  ;^ )  I’m here almost every day.

and then when you are reading dynamic sites (ones with content that changes a lot) you can subscribe and not worry about missing something.  You can have a morning newspaper that doesn’t have to go to the curb to be recycled… and it’s free.

Enjoy.
