Look at things from the Outside. In

Outside. In is a website devoted to neighborhood news.  I’ll be sending my feeds there.  Currently there are only feeds coming in from major media, but I think we will start to see more blogs and other media geo-tagging their content.

Of course, this is in addition to Localism, which is a site dedicated to hyper-local content, of which I am also a part.

These sites, as well as other emerging sites are all doing similar things.  The primary goal is to let people find out what is going on where they live.  International news is important.  National news is also important.  We need to keep up with what happens under the Gold Dome in Atlanta… but knowing what is happening where we live is vital.  Property values and quality of life are impacted mightily by what happens on a neighborhood level.

Odd… the world wide web is making it easier to find out what is happening next door.

I don’t feel so unique…

A week or so ago I decided that I should surf a little bit around Goggle on my name… reputation mangement.  I wanted to know what might be said about me.  And I have recently had a few friends (I’m not going to say “old friends” because they don’t appear old) contact me because they found me through searches and social networking.

I search my name on a fairly regular basis, and have Google alerts set… but I found a few people with my name of which I wasn’t already aware.  I knew about Wendy Lane Bailey, a singer from Lousiana that currently resides in NYC.  But what I didn’t know was that there were 10 other Lane Baileys on Facebook… and another 5 or so Bailey Lanes.

So… point?

August Issue of GarageHomesUSA is up, and…

… the August Market Report (covering July preliminary numbers and June final numbers) is up as well.

I will probably modify it a little more, but the main things are in place.  FMLS doesn’t get numbers out until a few days into the months, but they are out and so I have had a chance to parse them, slice ’em, dice ’em and make them talk to me.

I am again using the PowerPoint format for the Market Report.  It seems to deliver a little more info in a more easily digestible way.

Here is a link to the August Issue of GarageHomesUSA.  Enjoy.

Lilburn City Park… not just for Kids

Ok, not just for kids, but kids can certainly have a ball there.

To start with there is the giant playground.  It was built just a few years ago, and has a bunch of slides, several swings, a few climbing walls as well as a bunch of other toys…

In addition to the kids’ playground, there are tennis courts, a bandshell, playing/gathering field, a walking trail, pavilion and access to the Camp Creek Greenway Trail.  The park is located right in the heart of “Olde Town” Lilburn.

Lilburn and Localism

For a little over a year I have been a member of a real estate social networking site called Active|Rain.  For the whole time there has been a sister platform called Localism.  And also for that whole period of time, Localism has been in a beta stage.

**Side note.  Beta stage means that it wasn’t really done, but was running full speed.**

The beta Localism platform was nice, but wasn’t great.  It pulled a fair amount of search traffic from Google, and that was always great… but it wasn’t sticky.  That means that people would do a search, go to the result, read it and then leave.

The new site isn’t that way.  And it isn’t all about real estate.  Make no doubt, real estate is front and center right now, but as the the site matures, real estate won’t be the center.

So, Localism has been completely redesigned, and it isn’t in beta any more.  And it is pretty cool.

Anyway, on to the point…

Come on in and take a look at Lilburn.  Look around.  Let me know what you think.  I’ll be adding more content, as will all of the other participants.  In fact, ANYONE can join and contribute content for Localism.  Come on in, the water is fine.
