I want my Mommy!!! (or not so much)

I am a 42 year old man. I have a lovely wife and a beautiful child… and another beautiful child on the way. We own a house and 3.2 cars (my auto enthusiast readers understand that little gem). We even have a dog.

In short, my wife and I are responsible adults with our own children.

Furthermore, we both love our parents.

But we don’t need more parents. We don’t need a federal, state or local government to take care of us and assume the parental role. We don’t need the government to tell us what to do, what not to do and how we should live every aspect of our lives.

We know that health insurance is expensive… but we pay for it. We also know that “free” health insurance will either suck, or cost a fortune… or both. We pay for our own, and don’t expect our neighbors to pay for it.

We pay for our own heat, A/C and water… and we don’t expect someone else to pick up the bill.

Gas is expensive… but we use it by choice. If the government tries to “fix” it by taxing the crap out of oil companies, it will only be more expensive. If they really wanted to drop the cost of fuel, ANWR would be open for drilling… as would a few other areas.

We can see historically that every time the government jumps into the middle of a short-term issue it becomes a long-term problem. I dare say that the foreclosure and mortgage problems we are currently facing will be the same.

So, as we float into Super Tuesday, think. Do you need another Mommy (or Daddy) or should you be treated like a responsible adult?

And the video below has NOTHING to do with the post, but Isuzu is bailing out of the US market. This particular commercial series only came to the US as an A/V presentation at auto shows, but was quite popular in Europe. I might end up loading one of those great “Joe Isuzu” commercials later in the week.

It’s Sunday… video day (or not)

Ralph just kicked this up on a forum I administer. It is a lot of fun… especially if you like air time.

I hope you enjoyed it.

Open Houses… why we don’t like them so much

As I jumped into FMLS (one of the local Multiple Listing Services to which I subscribe) I noticed an Agent Alert.

Please use extreme caution when holding open houses. A report was received today about an extremely suspicious man showing up at an open house in the Lawrenceville area verbally threatening the agent. The man is Caucasian, in mid-thirties, heavy-set with a crew cut, about 5’6” tall, wearing a black jacket and driving an older white Buick Skylark. The Gwinnett County Police were notified.

As much as I would like to say that these types of issues are extremely rare, they aren’t as rare as they should be.  From what I hear from other agents, and what I have experienced, most open houses aren’t that hopping here in the ATL.  There are some pockets where they are quite busy, but mostly not…

So, bad guys have figured out that the agents sitting for the open houses might be easy pickings.

Let me just let you know something.  If you are an agent, don’t hold an open house alone.  Always have another person at the house.  Not only is it good for safety, but it is great to have someone else there in case all three of the visitors show up at once.

If you are one of the baddies…  We seldom sit houses alone.  And the agents that do usually expect to have steady traffic.  And think about it for a second… we aren’t sitting there with a bunch of cash or something.

NHL All-Star Game in Atlanta, Part V

Today was the final day of my volunteer commitment to the NHL for the all-Star game.  It was a great time.

I made only one run with a player, Andrei Markov, and his lovely SO (Significant Other).  I took them from the player hotel to their Delta flight.  Not very chatty…  But, I think that was more of a language function than anything else.

After getting back, I grabbed some drivers and we began to send the Dodge vehicles to the staging lot where they were to be loaded into a truck for return to Michigan.  It was the end of the ride… so to speak.

I think the best part of the weekend was hanging out with the other drivers.  We had a pretty good time trading stories, and hearing about the riders.  For the most part, all of the passengers were pretty good.  I heard about a few that were less than pleasant, but most were very down to earth and seemed to like the break from autograph hounds and demanding agents…

So, back to real estate posts starting tomorrow (Tuesday…).

NHL All-Star Game in Atlanta, Part IV

Garrett with a BIG guySunday…  All-Star Game day.  Once again, I didn’t get to drive Alyssa Milano and family…

I was assigned to drive Rob Carr, VP of the Detroit Red Wings.  I’d give a link with his bio, but I couldn’t really find one.

I grabbed some lunch after chilling in the lounge for a while, and as I started eating, I got the call to pick up Rob and his lovely wife.  So, chomping fries as I scooted down to the van, and ran over to the Ritz-Carlton.  I drove them to the Georgia Aquarium and then sent their bags to the Red Wing’s cargo van.

I cooled my heels in the deck of the Aquarium for a couple of hours… and the Carrs decided to walk to Philips (I assume, because nobody let me know they were out…).

I ran a coat left in the van over to the arena to their cargo van and then went back to the Westin to chill until I took Marta back home.

One of the things that has been the most fun has been hanging out in the lounge or in the staging areasSkills Competition with the other drivers.  There are some serious hockey fans in the driver pool… I have nothing on these guys.  Not only do they know all of the actual news in the league, but they know the rumors.  And they have a serious network.

I forgot to strap on the camera today, so no pics… and really nothing to shoot.  So, I added some more from yesterday.

I’m looking forward to tomorrow.  That will be the final push to get everyone out of town that isn’t chartered out after the game tonight.  Hopefully I’ll get some great names… You’ll see it here…

I’ll be back on real estate Tuesday.
