Get ready to cheer for Lilburn’s Eric Shanteau

Parkview High School alum Eric Shanteau has made the US Olympic Swimming Team, competing in the 200 Meter Breast stroke.  He finished 3rd in the 2004 Trials in both the 200m and 400m Individual Medleys, just barely missing the team.

That, in an of itself, would be an amazing accomplishment. His list of swimming accomplishments is long and illustrious.  Parkview High School records, Georgia State High School records… Take a look here

But, there is something else.  Eric is fighting testicular cancer.  At 24 years old.  No whining.  Instead, he is showing the same determination that has pushed him to acheive all that he has acheived.  NBC published a story about him being inspirational.  No doubt.  He didn’t tell anyone about it until after the Trials.

BTW, his older brother Ryan, one of my clients, was not a swimming slouch either, competing for GA Tech after setting records for Parkview.

So, if you don’t get the chance to watch anything else during the Olympics, tune in and cheer on Eric in the 200 meter Breast stroke.

I’ll post up video and results after the event.  I’ll also try to bug Ryan for some pictures after the event…

Sunday is a good day for Lawn Maintenance

So, I thought it was high time I added some different types of racing to my Sunday Video collection…

And this one many of us can go out and practice TODAY… with no new equipment.  Maybe it will help get some of those pesky lawn chores done…

This is just more proof that guys will race ANYTHING…

And there is a little bonus if you need to do any tree trimming…

I hope you had fun… now be productive. ;^ )

Cruising in Tucker

No, not in a Tucker, but in Tucker, GA.

On the second Saturday most months there is a big cruise in Tucker, GA. The next cruise is on July 12th, but here are a few images from previous cruises.

Feel free to stop me if you run into me there.

Maybe it explains their 122 year history

I normally don’t like to pimp specific companies products too much… unless I am presenting competitive products as well, but I just wanted to commend Sears.

Craftsman Lift and Secure JackNo, I didn’t go to a store and get amazing customer service. No I didn’t order something off the internet from them. I didn’t even stumble across an amazing price… But, what I DID find was the Tool Catalog. I am very familiar with it, I try to make sure I grab one each year. And I do it not because I am necessarily going to buy a bunch of tools, but because they have a great selection that gives the cross section of what sort of groovy/cool stuff is out for the garage.

When I was a kid, the release of the JC Penney Christmas Wishbook was THE most important literary event each year. And while the Tool Catalog release doesn’t hit THAT level… it is a lot of fun. It makes me happy for a day or three.

So, let’s hit a few highlights…

Cross Force Wrenches by CraftsmanCraftsman Cross Force Wrenches. These things are pretty cool. How many times have you been pushing on a combo wrench and it just isn’t easy to provide a lot of force because you are pushing on the edge of the wrench? These are also ratcheting… and I LOVE my ratcheting combo wrenches. They are often my “go to” wrenches.

Craftsman Jack System, Lift and Secure. In order to safely work under a vehicle, we are always supposed to support it on jack stands, and not just the jack. This cuts a step and makes it more likely that even on those “just going to dive under and shake something for a minute” jobs that we will employ the safer method.

Orange Metallic Tool Cab

Don’t adjust your set… it isn’t red.  It is Orange Metallic.  It is joining blue, forest green, black and silver as options for their tool boxes.  Not everything is available in every color, but it IS nice that we don’t have to get stuck with the red box… even if it clashes with the maroon street rod.  So, a Craftsman Professional Tool 56″ Tool Cart in Sunburst Metallic Orange is on the cool list.

Montezuma Portable Tool BoxMontezuma Portable Tool Box.  This one is in black, but it’s also available in red and white.  It is kind of cool because of its shape, and the fact that just about everything is out there as soon as it is open.  There aren’t any drawers to jam, and we won’t forget where we put something…  It’s all right there.

So, that’s just a couple of the things that Sears found that we might like to find.

Mud 4 Blood videos

Saturday, May 10th was the GBR 4WD Club’s annual Mud 4 Blood event in conjunction with LifeSouth and other Atlanta area 4WD clubs.

We had a great event this year, and here are a couple of video clips from the event.

This first clip is the Georgia Rock Rods setting up one of their several parking set-ups. Through-out the day, they re-arranged their rigs in different stacking combinations. The crowd seemed to enjoy the setting up as much as the vehicles once they were in formation.

One of the fans of the stacked Jeeps was my son Garrett. He thought it was terribly cool. He was asking why we didn’t have our minivan parked on top of the dually and project Commando at home…

There will be a video compilation of the sights of Mud 4 Blood coming soon… And save a day in early May for next year’s event.
