Cub Scout Car Guys…

Tonight I had the pleasure of visiting a Cub Scout Den and talking cars with the guys. Another local real estate agent, Katy Kassam, needed a speaker for the Den and this month’s focus is on cars. Never one to pass on the opportunity to talk cars, I gladly accepted.

We talked specifically about racing and sportsmanship, as well as teamwork. We also watched a few videos… The only thing more fun than talking cars is looking at them race. We started with a short film called “Climb Dance” which has won several awards. It is about Ari Vatanaan racing a Peugot up Pikes Peak. The many camera angles accentuate the altitude and danger.

To contrast this, we watched a short clip of the Pikes Peak Hillclimb from 1919.

At the beginning of the meeting, the kids each got to name a car. One of them said Corvette… I came prepared with a short film about Corvettes racing at LeMans on the 50th Anniversary of their first race there.

The final video was one of the coolest.

There are a couple of reasons that we ended the videos with this one. Aside from being really cool (anything that weighs 10 tons and flies like that is seriously cool), they also represent one of the best examples of teamwork and sportsmanship. They are the support vehicles for the other racers, and do all of their maintenance and repair. But, they are also committed to making sure their competitors finish as well. During events like the Dakar, these competitors help each other if they get stuck or break. So, thanks fellas… and Moms, Dads, Sisters and Brothers.Cub Scout Pack

Here are the Sunday videos… enjoy

First up is a video from my happy place, Moab, UT. The trails are steep and sticky. My nerves give out before my Jeep most of the time.

The next video is from Tellico. Tellico is close… and it features some of the nastiest terrain on this end of the country. It is steep and not sticky. This particular trail is Lower 2. It is no longer open. I’ve done it a number of times, and it was always challenging.

Stay tuned for more next week

Real estate video, New and Improved?

I posted this video on my Active Rain blog, which is primarily targeted at real estate professionals. But, I wanted to get reactions from people that would be better characterized as real estate consumers. This is a short video from an agent in Chicago.

We Rock Chicago – Curb Cut Media – Chicago, IL 60646

So, the question is: As a real estate consumer, what do you think? Does this make you want to call this agent and see the property?I’m seriously considering adopting this style of video for properties. I think I would make some changes, but the basic template seems pretty good…

It’s Sunday… must be time for some videos

Since it is the weekend. I figured I’d take it easy and toss up a couple more videos. These are both recreational 4wheeling pictures featuring Jeepsters and Commandos.

Some of you may know that I am in the (entirely too slow) process of building a 71 Kaiser Jeepster Commando. It will be seriously modified from anything even resembling stock. Specs (subject to change):

  • 71 Kaiser Jeepster Commando
  • 92 Jeep YJ front clip
  • 92 Jeep 4.0HO engine
  • Dodge NV4500 5 speed with GM 6.34:1 first gear
  • Jeep NP231 T-case converted with a Mad Rooster kit to aux underdrive
  • STaK flipped Dana 300 T-case with 4:1 low range
  • Front and rear Dana 60 axles with 5.36 gears and Eaton E-lockers
  • Custom built frame
  • 4 link coil suspension front and rear
  • TSL 38.5×12.50 16.5s on Hummer double beadlock wheels.

I’m kicking around an adjustable air suspension idea as well. It would still allow the coils, but I would be able to raise or lower the vehicle from the cab. However, if I lost the air system, the vehicle would still be driveable.

It will have a full cage, and seating for 4. All seating positions will have full 4 or 5 point harnesses for off-road use. Of course, it will have A/C, and other comfort features… although, the goal is to leave the top off and just run a custom bikini top as much as possible.

If there are any equipment sponsors that want to have me test their gear… you know where to find me. 🙂

Atlanta is hosting the Monsters tomorrow

So, here is a taste.

I’ll be next door at the Thrashers game.

And if jumping an airplane isn’t enough, here is Gravedigger doing a little freestyle.

I hope you had fun. BTW, apparently the Monster Jam is sold out.
