Photo Friday… Almost Time to Get Muddy…

Mud4BloodIt is coming…  Mud4Blood8 will be held on May 28th, 2011 at the Hooters in Kennesaw, GA.

Each year, the GBR4WD club hosts this event, which brings together auto and 4wd enthusiasts from all over the Atlanta area.  The reason for the gathering is a blood collection for LifeSouth.

But that isn’t the only thing going on… there is a GIANT car and truck show with everything from big 4x4s to low-riders.  There are customs and restos.  There are also vendor booths for all types of auto enthusiast needs… and food.  Last, but certainly not least, there is a HUGE raffle with food and parts.  Did I mention that it’s HUGE?  And the only way to get a ticket for the raffle is to make a blood donation attempt.

Come out all day, or just squeeze over for a few minutes to donate a pint, get a juice pouch and some Nutter Butters.

Let’s take a break from Market Reports in Gwinnett County, GA

And we can talk about cars…  Don’t worry, I have a couple more Gwinnett County, GA, Market Reports coming out starting tomorrow.

I was thinking about project cars (as if I didn’t already have an all-consuming project in the garage currently).  And I got started thinking about what one could do on a modest budget… maybe $5000… or less.  And that led me to eBay, looking at potential projects with “Buy-It-Now” prices between $2000 and $2500.  There were some interesting cars.  These cars are currently available (as I post this) and located near Atlanta, GA.

  • 1958 Chevy Belair 4dr.  Looks interesting, but does have some rust.  Excellent patina, though.
  • 1959 Edsel Ranger.  Seller says it doesn’t have any rust… and it looks reasonably straight in the 3 pictures on eBay.
  • 1985 Chevy K10 4×4.  Lifted on 35″ tires… classic mud truck.  Love the short beds.
  • 1957 Willys CJ-5.  I like it.  I had a 55 M38A1 (the military version of the same Jeep).  Looks reasonable, but EVERYTHING is available for these things.
  • 1971 Dodge D-100.  BIG engine.  Gotta love the 440.  Florida isn’t THAT far, is it?

All of these bad boys need a little work… but they all have the capacity for coolness that separates them from the pack of boring cars that most people buy.

If you get one, let me know how it works out for you.

Guys! Valentine’s Day is Monday! Don’t Forget…

You might just want to accelerate and make plans for tonight.  But, under no circumstances should you forget.  Get your sweetie something nice, like a 40″ rolling tool cabinet or a nice socket set.  Maybe she’ll get you something nice like a new bumper or a set of off-road lights.

Wayback Wednesday… Still Boring?

Two whole years ago…  Wow, time flies.

I wrote a post about the Top 10 Most Boring Cars.  It is one that got a lot of attention off of my blog.  I have had a few people comment to me personally about my choices.  I still don’t know how someone can defend the Camry as being ‘non-boring.’

That was a fun list to write.  I like writing car posts…  There are days that I think I would like to make this whole blog about cars and do my real estate writing elsewhere.  I’ve done a few car posts, and they have generally been popular.  My Top 10 Nastiest Vehicles You’ve Never Heard Of post has been one of the most read posts I’ve done.  I can count on it to get 30 or 40 hits a week now… even after three years.

I’d love to hear about cars you think are exceptionally cool… or cars you think are exceedingly boring.

Flashback Friday… 101 Cars Wrap-up…

TVR Sagaris II
Image by The Car Spy via Flickr

Ever so slightly over a year ago I wrote the wrap-up post for my 101 Cars I Must Drive series.  It took a year to write the series.  It really was a labor of love.  It was fun, but it was also a lot of work.  I was pretty proud of some of the more obscure cars I was able to showcase, even if only on my little stage.

So, last year’s wrap-up post had a list of the cars, as well as a link to each individual post.  Looking over the list, there were some pretty cool rides… of course, they were all cars I wanted to drive, so I guess they would have to have been kind of cool.

Here are a few of my favorites: the Lancia Stratos, the Bowler Nemesis, the TVR Sagaris, the ProDrive P2 and the Ascari.

Stop in and see how many of the cars from your list are there…
