Newsletter #1 has been emailed!

And of course I found a mistake right after I hit the send button… but hey, I’m not perfect.  Ask my wife.

If you would like to be on the e-newsletter list, join.  On the top right side of this page is the subscription form.  I’m not going to spam you 10 times a month with junk.  I won’t send out more than a couple times a month (honestly, I don’t plan on doing a newsletter more than once a month…).

I will be altering the newsletter format as I find better products to use.

I’d love your feedback if you are one of the lucky readers that got on the list.

And remember, you can unsubscribe at any time.  Just shoot me an email and you will be off the list.  I don’t want anyone to have things in their email box that they don’t want… at least not from me.

Are there really people that fall for this?

Like many people, I have received the Nigerian scam email… and the new Afghanistan and Iraq variants.  Like the vast majority of people, I shake my head and hit the delete button.  I have no idea how someone can think that there really is a legitimate reason for them to send their bank info to some unknown person, or that if they do, they will get millions of dollars for “facilitating” some transaction.

But now there is a new wrinkle…

To whom it may concern,

We have nabbed a syndicate of fraudsters who specializes in document forgery, impersonation and using of fictitious offices and clandestine phone, fax and emails to defraud innocent people. On interrogation, we promised these syndicate that if they confess their victims, that we will help them reduce their jail terms. Based on this promise we made to them, they provided your email address as one of their victims. We don’t know if their testimony that they defrauded you is correct. If indeed you lost any money to fraudsters in the time past, please notify us with immediate effect. We have recovered enormous amount in their accounts. We have also seized and sold all their houses, companies, expensive cars, stocks and shares they bought with their ill gotten wealth for the purpose of paying back their victims what they lost. Their victims as they enlisted are so many that all the money we realized from the sale of their belongings including the money recovered in their account will not be enough to pay back all

Same poor use of the English language… same appeal to greed.

So, assuming someone sent them their bank info, only to have the account cleared out… would they do it again?

What I think would be hilarious would be to find a way to do a reverse sting and when they ping an account, have the account they ping from cleared out…

Anyway, here is the new scam.  Don’t give them your bank information.  The easiest way to do that is to just ignore them and not reply… use the ol’ delete button.

Five best tools for an Auto Enthusiast

Ok, these are digital tools…  All of them are right here.  in front of you right now.  You probably use a few of them…

1.  Ebay.  Pretty obvious, right.  Regardless of what you are looking to find, there is a good chance it is being sold either new or used on Ebay.  Cars, tools, decor… even whole garages and homes (ok, for the homes, give me a call…)

2.  Craigslist.  A lot of people are using this.  If you aren’t familiar, it is like the old “nickel ad” papers… without the nickels.  The ads are free to post and free to surf.  Searching can be tough, though.   Craigslist is killing newspaper classifieds.  And a nifty search tool is crgslst… until it gets shut down.  They have a multi-city search tool.  But, similar sites have been shut down by Craig before.

3.  Hemmings Motor News.  HMN has been THE place for everything car since the earth cooled.  Seriously.  When I was in the restoration business forever ago, I had one of the First Class subscriptions so I could get the book faster.  Now, with the internet, everyone can get the ads faster.

4.  Your local car clubs.  Ok, this isn’t strictly a single tool, but a plethora of tools.  Regardless of the particular type of vehicles you favor, there are local and regional clubs.  Not only are the people that have an incredible depth of technical knowledge… there are always people that may have what you want, and you might have what they want…  Trade away.

5.  RSS Feeds.  Oooo.  Did I catch you with that one?  Most of these sites, and many of the other sites you might also scour regularly have RSS feeds.   By subscribing to the RSS feed, you get new information as it is updated.  So, if you have a search set up for 65 Mustang Parts on Ebay or HMN, when an ad that meets those criteria shows up… you get it.  Instead of going out to search all of the time, let the search come to you.

Bonus.  Google.  This is almost a no-brainer.  But, it is odd how often I hear people looking for something odd and they haven’t Googled it.  I mean a “Long-Tail” Google search.  If you are looking for Ford GT-40 Heads for sale, Google it.  (I got 20,000 hits…)  There is a fair chance that you got to my blog the first time from a Google search.  In fact, the most popular ones involves two of these three words: Cool, Garage, Homes.

Right behind that is Gwinnett County Homes.  Still working on getting that one higher in the results.

Thanks for stopping by.  When you are ready to find a cool garage home, let me know.  I have actually built quite a network of car friendly agents across the country.

REtechSouth coming to Atlanta

I got a call this afternoon from Matt Fagioli with Diamond Dwellings. His brokerage is a presenting sponsor of the REtech South Conference which is coming to Atlanta on March 27th, 2008.

Thank you!

I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you to my readers.  I have had a great week of readership.  The trends are up for both this blog and my website, Garage Homes USA.

I really enjoy the opportunity to bring you information about real estate in and out of Gwinnett County and Atlanta, GA… as well as the weekly videos and other interesting tidbits.  Obviously, the garage stuff is important to me as well… and judging from the email, it is important to you.

Thanks.

If you are ready to buy and/or sell a home with a cool (or could be cool) garage in Gwinnett County or the surrounding area, give me a call.

**I have to admit something, though.  I may not be able to answer at some point over the next couple of days, but I’ll call you back.  Look for the announcement why as soon as it happens.**
